Our volunteers are active in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area, including Northern Virginia and Maryland, and throughout the Mid-Atlantic region including the Baltimore area, the greater Richmond area, Virginia's Tidewater region, Maryland's Eastern Shore, eastern West Virginia, and southwest Virginia. The following are ways in which you can help:
Foster Homes
We are in great need of foster homes. Our first choice is to place Labs in foster homes rather than board them. Not only does it save the expense of boarding but we get to know the dog and can then match them with the perfect home. If you are interested in helping one of our Labs transition into a new life, please see our foster page.
Adopt-a-Lab Days
Your time on weekends helping us with our Lab Adoption Days will enable us to show more dogs and increase their chances of being adopted.
Transporters
If you would like to help transport dogs to and from vets, shelters, foster homes, and owners, please let us know.
Evaluations and Home Visits
We need people to evaluate dogs that are strays or owner give-ups before we will accept them into our system. In addition, we conduct home visits in connection with every adoption, sometimes before, sometimes after, sometimes both.
Fundraising
We are always in need of help in fundraising. If you have experience as a fundraiser for nonprofit organizations, we can use your help.
Grant Writing
We are looking for someone experienced in the grant writing area of fundraising. Currently, most of our funds come from private donations from caring individuals and our adoption fee donations.
Veterinarian Recruiter
The Veterinarian Recruiter's immediate focus will be to search for new veterinarians in Virginia and Maryland who can offer us reasonable prices and availability for spay/neuters, medical treatment, and boarding.
Professionals
We need help with computers and networks, accounting, marketing, publicity, printing, publications, and editing. We also need help with flyer circulation announcing special events -- posting them and keeping them current. Additionally, we like to put up flyers at veterinary clinics and pet stores featuring our adoptable dogs.
Donations
Lab Rescue always has a need for supplies, including crates, X-pens, child/dog gates, leashes, collars, water bowls or buckets.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Lab Rescue is dependent upon donations. All contributions go directly to providing care for our rescued Labradors. Through your generosity, Lab Rescue can continue to give hundreds of Labs a second chance each year. To help support our efforts, send in your tax-deductible donation today!
If you are interested in helping us in any of these ways, please contact Linda McGuffey, our Volunteer Coordinator, at info@lab-rescue.org or call our Lab Line at 301-299-6756 or, for the Richmond area, 804-553-1977.
Thanks for your interest in Lab Rescue!
