Annie (#10418)

Annie is a 12 month old yellow spayed female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs. She is both house and crate trained. Annie has an ectopic ureter (an abnormally located terminal portion of the ureter. Instead of the ureter opening in the bladder it opens in the urethra, vagina or uterus. The result is a dribbling of urine) that was operated on earlier this year but the leakage hasn't stopped all the way. She might improved if a new family can spend more time keeping it clean and covered with ointment. She is a very sweet and affectionate girl.

Bones (#10105) and Rocko (#10106)

Bones and Rocko are 5 year old black neutered males. They need to be adopted as a pair because they were litter mates and are very dependent on each other. Both are up to date on their shots and are heartworm negative. Good with other dogs living with two small dogs now. Bones and Rocko are approved for kids aged 8 and up. They shouldn't be adopted into a home with cats. They know their commands and walk okay on lead. They are both house and crate trained. Both love to swim and have been trained not to go in a swimming pool. Rocko is a ballaholic and will retrieve until he drops. Bones will retrieve when he feels like it but would much rather cuddle with you. They both like to lay in sun, snooze and get tummy rubs. They like outside as they were raised on a farm.

Bubba (#10405)

Bubba is a 2 1/2 year old neutered yellow male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 86 lbs. He is very friendly and sweet. Bubba is brand new to Lab Rescue. We'll tell you more about him as soon as we can.

Update from Bubba's foster family 7/15/2010:

Bubba is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever fostered! He came to us after being kenneled for 2 1/2 months and he did have that crazy look in his eye. But after 3 days of running, jumping, swimming and playing he completely mellowed out to the lovable cuddly lab that we knew he could be. Bubba is infamous for following you right on your heels, and if you stop to quickly he will give you a flat tire. He always wants to know what you are up to! Bubba likes carrying around stuffed animals and shoes in his mouth (but he doesn't chew them!) and is willing to share them with you if you ask! Bubba is a big swimmer and likes to stick his whole head in the water bowl or doggy paddle with his 2 front paws. Bubba is a quick learner and has almost got "sit" completely mastered. He does know come and EH which is our noise for stop. Bubba is crate trained but prefers not to be crated (will chew so don’t leave him alone just yet) He enjoys having his people around. He is definitely a social dog and gets along well with people, dogs, cats and children although they have to be careful about getting knocked over when he is excited! Bubba would make the perfect addition to anybody's home!

Buck (#10463)

Buck is a 2 year old neutered chocolate male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm positive; Lab Rescue will pay for his treatment. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 69 lbs but needs to gain a few more. He knows some commands and walks ok on a lead. He likes to retrieve. He's friendly and likes to get rubbed and scratched. He really enjoys getting his belly rubbed. His coat is sunbleached and his nails worn down. We suspect he was an outside dog or kept in a kennel although he doesn't seem uncomfortable inside.

He likes to retrieve and really likes to be with you. He has plenty of energy and would love to work it off playing in a yard.

Caesar (#10451)

Caesar is a 9 month old fox red neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 71 lbs but probably still has some growing to do. He's both house and crate trained. He needs some work with training and walks ok on a lead. He take treats gently. He's a gorgeous, goofy, handsome, happy guy who likes to play. He'll even chase grasshoppers in the field because it seems like a fun game. No cats! Caesar has too strong an interest in them. He's all puppy in a grown up dog body.

Update from Caesar's foster family 7/28/2010:

I can confirm all the great things the initial information on Caesar has to say. He’s an adorable, silly, goofy puppy in a big-boy body. He’s 71 lbs at only 9 months, and has massive paws and forearms.

He loves to help me with several tasks. When I was picking up sticks/branches from the yard, he was stealing one for every two I picked up. And he loves chewing and dragging the big sticks around the yard. He’s not shy about trying to take the sticks away from my alpha dog – but with respect. Caesar also loves to hang out with me while I shower. He sticks his head into the tub (thank goodness it’s only his head!) and he moves from one side of the curtain to the other depending how much he wants rained on. As soon as I turn the water off, he helps to dry my legs, then he leaves the room.

Caesar will bark and bark at my dog to get him to play. Caesar likes his toys, so watch out for pillow corners (he nibbled one last night). And he likes to be with his human. He’ll lay in the middle of the kitchen while I’m prepping food, and respects you while you’re eating. He  is counter-curious; while I'm prepping food, he has gotten between  me and the counter and wants to help .

I had a lot of company last night and he was great with all the people in the yard - I think my guests liked him even more. He loved all the extra attention and was fantastic as we all sat at the tables and ate. I discovered that he eats ice like treats – he had a field day as I was filling a cooler for the party – a personal ice trough just for him!

On the walk he pulls a bit at first, but he’s just so excited to check things out. Once we got going, there was actually slack in the leash. I do use the Gentle Leader body harness on him with success. Getting ready to leave the house for the walk was another matter, but we're working on that.

Caesar listens well for a young dog. I do crate him when I leave and he puts up no fuss whatsoever. He does have a jumping issue – when I’m on the opposite side of the fence and he wants to be with me. He can easily jump a good 2 feet. But once he realized I was doing yardwork and was still hanging around, he settled down. He hasn’t figured out how to jump over the fence yet, and he may need help learning how to stay on the right side.

Because of the power-outage, I’ve been sleeping on the sofa and he just lies right next to me without any problems during the night. The first night he did join me on the sofa (so I gather he’s used to sleeping on a bed), but it was too warm and he jumped down after a few minutes. I did hear him early this morning go to the toy bin before he woke me so he seems to know how to occupy himself.

Overall he’s a healthy, loveable, well-adjusted, handsome young dog. He likes to touch you, but he’s not an in-your-face licker. No accidents in my home (and no marking). He’s just ready for his forever home.

Celery (#10307)

Celery is a 2 year old yellow neutered male, weighs 53 lbs should be 60. Up todate on shots, Heartworm positive - Lab Rescue will pay for treatment. Good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. Celery can not be in a house with cats. Knows sit and is good on lead. Seems crate trained. Very friendly and loves to be with you. Can handle him all over without problems, loves his belly rubbed. Wasn't interested in retrieving was having too much fun exploring the yard. He found out the gate was ajar so went outside and was having fun playing in the stream behind the shop but came when called.

Update from Celery's foster family:

Celery has been settling in great the last week and a half. We were told he had quite a bit of energy but we have yet to see it. We do take him on 4-5 walks a day so that might be it but he pretty much lays next to the couch all day unless he needs out. He does fine in his crate if we are gone for a couple hours during the day. While I was gone my roommates let him sleep on the floor in the bedroom and he ' s been fine with that.  He seems to need some help getting used to new people, but he might gain confidence as he spends more time with us.  He's fully housetrained and cratetrained. Celery walks pretty good on a leash.

Champ (#10280)

Champ is a 2 year old fox red male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is cratetrained. He currently weighs 44 lbs but should be closer to 60. He is approved for kids aged 6and up. He's good with other dogs and cats. He knows some commands and walks ok on a lead. He likes to be around you and smiles when he comes to see you. Champ was rescued when he was found chained up to a house without food or water.

Update from Champ's foster family 6/29/2010:

Champ doing fine in foster home for the last month. He is living with 3 kids ages 6 and up and he loves to play with them and their friends. He is completely house trained has the run of the house but goes in his crate when he wants to get away from kids or other dogs. He knows his commands and is good on a lead. He's enjoying his daily walks/runs. Good with their dogs plays with neighbors dogs without problems. Is interested in playing with the cat but she doesn't want anything to do with him so he stays away when told to. He is very friendly and likes to be with you. Even though he likes attention he is also ok on his own. He is gaining some weight and his coat has improved with every bite. He had pneumonia right after he got neutered and has recovered from that with no problems.

Chloe has a lot of energy and loves to play. She has a soft mouth when she takes treats. She usually comes when she's called and stays nearby. Chloe is not good with cats.

Update from Chloe's foster family 7/23/2010:

Chloe is extremely sweet and fairly quiet.  She loves affection especially getting lots of rubs, hugs and kisses.  She love to play; enjoys her stuffed squeaky toys and also really loves dogs treats.  She enjoys going for walks and doesn't pull unless she sees another dog or small animal.  She is house trained and crate trained but we don't have to crate her while we're at work.  She loves going for car rides.

Chucho (#10416)

Chucho is an 11 year old chocolate neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. Chucho is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 80 lbs. He is both house and crate trained. Chucho knows his commands and has the retriever gene; definitely likes balls. When you first see him you'd think he's around 5 years old then you watch him chase the ball and think, hmm...maybe he's 3. He knows his commands.

Update from Chucho's foster family 7/15/2010:

Chucho is a very happy guy now that the offending tooth has been removed.  He is a mature boy with intelligence, personality and charm—all in a rather small (for a Lab!) chocolate body.  His records say that Chucho has hip dysplasia but Chucho hasn’t read them, so he runs up and down stairs in the townhouse where he is staying, and loves, LOVES to chase the tennis ball.  He brings it back every time and drops it at your feet, then looks up expectantly for the next toss.  You will have to be the one to say ‘enough!’.  Chucho hasn’t read the records that say how old he is, either!  He can jump in and out of the SUV.

Chucho isn’t the kind of dog who curls up next to you on the couch, but he loves to be near you.  He follows you everywhere, and if you are working at your desk, he will be curled up at your feet.  He has been an only dog, but he gets along really well with his three doggie housemates, and, now that he’s feeling better, he has even tried to get one of them to play with him.  Chucho and his pals get along so well that they can drag bones out of the toy basket at the same time without a hint of competition, then ignore each other while they happily gnaw on the one they selected.

Chucho loves to ride in the car.  He will stand and watch the scenery go by for awhile, and then curl up and go to sleep.  It’s been too hot to do a lot of walking, but he does well on the lead and doesn’t pull.  He learned the house routine very quickly, and knows to go to his own bed without asking when we go upstairs for the night.

Chucho would be the perfect dog for someone who wants maturity with spirit.  He is small enough (60 pounds, although he needs to gain a few) that he is easy to handle, and loves to play, despite his age.  He would be a quiet companion, easy-going around the house, and he could even be a companion to another dog.

Dobson (#10380)

Dobson is a 9 year old black neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 9 and up. He weighs 65 lbs. Dobson suffers from some hip and allergy issues that we're just starting to learn about. Dobson is brand new to Lab Rescue. We'll tell you more about him as soon as we can.

Update from Dobson's foster family 7/8/2010:

Dobson is fitting in very nicely.  He gets along with the dogs tremendously!  He is very docile, quiet and loving.  My husband and I just LOVE him!  I feel badly for his immobility.  He really wants to romp and play, with the girls, but he knows his body is just not capable. He has taken a liking to the copper pot full of stuffed toys .  He takes one in his mouth and carries it around the house.   Kind of like saying, "Hey, look at what I have!"  He walks so quietly on a leash, that I don't even know he is there!  He is loving the farm:  all the rabbit, goose, toad and horse smells.   He really loves his treats and I have to be mindful not to give him too many, as the vet does not want him to gain any weight.  He did try to follow us up the stairs, last night, to bed.  I felt terrible that he couldn't come!  However, he settled nicely into the nice, soft, plush dog bed and slept all night.

Emmie (#10390)

Emmie is a 9 year old black spayed female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 5 and up. She weighs 70 lbs. She is both house and crate trained. She has some arthritis but has no problem chasing a ball in the yard, swimming or taking her evening walk. She's on glucosamine supplements for her arthritis.

Update from Emmie's foster family 7/24/2010:

Emily is a sweet girl. A lady all the way. She is a nuzzler, not a kisser. She has some arthritis in her hind quarters but it doesn’t slow her down. Loves tennis balls. Has an intense mooching stare, but is not obnoxious about her mooching. She is not crated. She has started to go up and down our townhouse stairs and slept in our bedroom last night. Every other night she has slept on our big dog pillow and Max (our two-legged child) has joined her at some time during the night. She does not seek out but is accepting of all the attention from our children and other dogs. Needs to gain a little weight. Did I mention she loves her tennis balls?..She loves to cuddle gently. She is a perfect combination of enjoys activity and yet enjoys her alone/nap time. She is not a rough and tumble lab. She would be comfortable spending time with her people or is just fine by herself while they are gone. She is delightful and sweet. We just love her.

Hannah (#10287)

Hannah is a 12 year old spayed chocolate female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is both house and crate trained and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. Hannah knows her basic commands like heel, sit and down. She is great with people in general. She is dominant with other dogs and would probably do best in a home where she is the only dog. Dispite her age she still loves to pay in the show, chase rabbits outside and take walks.

Update from Hannah's foster family 7/21/2010:

Hannah is adapting well and has made herself right at home.  We have been watching a neighbor’s chocolate lab (adopted from Lab Rescue) over the past few days and  that dog is quite a handful.  Hannah has put up with her pretty well and tries to ignore her posturing and over-playfulness.   She knows how to get him to behave.

Mostly Hannah likes to sleep in the evenings as 8 p.m. seems to be her bedtime.  She is very energetic when her breakfast and dinner are about to be served and when I come home.  She likes to bark and let me know that she has been waiting for me to arrive and, “how dare I leave without her.”  She loves to follow me into the garage, usually because I am getting something out of there.  Hannah does not give kisses, but she will butt you with her nose to get your attention and sniff at you.  She likes to get a good scratching and seems to really like getting brushed. She’s pretty good on the leash too and doesn’t pull much once we get going. She'll go out in the yard but would rather stay inside with her people.

Update from JD's foster family 7/26/2010:

We are glad to still have JD around until he finds the perfect home.   He is doing so great. He is showing much more interest in eating and I have noticed lots more dog toys around the house. He is finally starting to play with the toys which is so nice to see. I am glad he is finally feeling comfortable to play.   We still have had no issues leaving him out while we aren't home.  He is the best to snuggle up with and watch a movie with. His leash skills are improving;  he is learning fast and he is a pleasure to take on long walks. He is also so quiet and well mannered in the house during the day and great company. I love when I get home and I see his head pop up from the couch. He still hasn't given either of a kiss yet but he has gotten close...we are waiting to see who will be the lucky first one.   Having him here has been a pleasure as his love for people is priceless. People in the neighborhood stop all the time to meet him and he loves the attention. However, as we know he doesn't feel the same way about cats! I would have to say his favorite place in the house is our bed-smart guy!

Katie (#10423)

Katie is a 13 year old yellowd spayed female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs and cats and is approved for kids aged 8 and and up. She is both house and crate trained. Katie has excellent house manners; she doesn't counter surf or raid the garbage and she doesn't get on the furniture. She likes to sleep next to the bed. She loves having her back rubbed by the base of her tail and also loves getting belly rubs. Katie likes squeeky toys. She loves attention and listens carefully to you. She wags her whole body with happiness. Katie knows her commands. She would do best in a house with only a few steps because she has difficulties with stairs.

Update from Katie's foster family 7/20/2010:

Katie is a lovely, mature girl with personality and charm and a very waggy nature.  Now that she has settled in with her foster, Katie is back to her playful self, acting younger than her age.  Her favorite toy is a large purple octopus which she likes to carry around and squeak.  Katie was an only dog in her previous home, however she has settled in nicely with her doggie housemate, a male Lab.   Katie sleeps peacefully through the night on her Barney blanket, spread over a dog bed and when her family heads to the bedroom at night, she has her spot.  She takes treats gently and is very good natured about taking turns getting treats with the other dog.  Katie loves being walked on the leash and also likes exploring the back yard on her own. She easily handles some steps and can jump in and out of the car and eagerly goes for rides.  Katie still has an eye for the squirrels and will bark at them to show that they are not allowed on her deck.  Katie will sleep at your feet, wherever you are; she loves to be near you.  She follows you everywhere, and if you are working at your desk, she will be curled up nearby.  She likes to follow me when I am preparing meals and will gently take fruit and veggies when offered. Katie encountered several cats at the vet and showed no interest, so she could go to a home with cats.  Katie has lived with children, age 8 and up and showed great interest in children at the adoption day. Katie would be the perfect dog for someone who wants maturity with spirit.  She is small enough (65 pounds) that she is easy to handle, enjoys affection, has a very thick, soft coat,  and is very waggy.  She would be a quiet companion and easy going around the house.

Lucky (#10324)

Lucky is a 5 year old yellow neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He's good with other dogs and cats and is approved for kids aged 8 and up. He is both house and crate trained. He is a bit timid because of the recent changes in his life and Lab Rescue expects him to settle in nicely with a family that has time to focus on him.

Update from Lucky's foster family 7/19/2010:

Lucky is listed as 5 yrs but the vet thinks he may be younger.  He is a fairly tall and lanky guy, very sweet, laid-back. Lucky really is a sweetheart. His coat is super soft and he really just wants to be near you. He rode very well in the car and is good at the vet. He has good house manners, is perfectly house trained and will sit when asked. He doesn't chew and he doesn't get up on the furniture. He is good with cats!  He will ignore the cat but will walk up slowly to sniff him if the cat sits out in the open. He has also let the cat sniff him. He gets along very well with other dogs including a very bossy boy! He doesn’t play with them but rather hangs out with them in the yard. We first thought that Lucky may have separation issues but it turns out that he really doesn't like being crated so now he hangs out in the basement.  He's happy to see us when we come home but settles down quickly.

Max (#9677)

6 year old neutered black male. Weighs about 80 lbs. Good with other dogs, children 8 and over, will chase cats. Max is up-to-date on his shots and has successfully been treated for heartworm by Lab Rescue. He has lived with his rescuer's 95 year-old mother and her son. Good with neighbor kids and visiting children. Has lived with a Ridgeback without problem, chases squirrels and rabbits. Housetrained. Pulls some on lead at first. He is more English, nice blocky head on a nice shiny black coat. Max is very friendly and smart and learns new routines quickly. This summer he learned to swim by watching the Ridgeback go swimming in the nearby river.

Update from Max's foster family 6/29/10:

Max is a very sweet dog – anyone looking for a gentle snuggler who needs and wants lots of ear rubs is in for a treat with him.  He does pull some on the leash, but settles in and is very well behaved walking.  You have to be careful with him near an open door or use a baby gate as he does like to head out if you are not careful He is housebroken and knows some basic commands such as sit and out.  He is very inquisitive and likes to explore. Max enjoys his foster sister labs as well as his 10 year old human sister, too.  He enjoys playing with human and canine alike.  One of our dogs especially challenges him on a regular basis with toys and bones, and he always backs off. The other girl is especially a good playmate with him.  Max likes to play rough and tumble. If things start to get to be too much I just clap my hands and say no and they immediately stop. He's a good boy, who needs some exercise and play time. He's very obedient and eager to please though.

When he meets someone new, he has one of two reactions. He either prances right up with his tail wagging or walks over and looks up at you with his big eyes. Either way he is trolling for pets and is completely shameless about it. He loves the afffection and nobody can resist. Monty wants to do whatever you want to do. If you want to go outside, he wants to go right along. If you are reading, working on the computer or watching tv, he is completely content to sleep at your feet. He will gladly keep you company in the kitchen, but not to beg, just to hang out while you cook dinner. He hasn't done any counter surfing, but will definitely perk up if he hears deli paper or smells shrimp boiling. Who can blame him after all. Even with all that going on, he doesn't beg, but I am sure if he had a little morsel thrown is way, he would be thrilled. Monty will thrive in any environment in which he is around people alot. He does not like his crate, but will willingly go in when asked. A great home for Monty would be with minimal crate time and lots of time with his family. He loves children. We have a nine and ten year old and they couldn't do better together. We have had him around children as young as six and like I said, he loves EVERYONE. He likes a little outdoor time and when he plays, you can see there is still some puppy in him. He likes you to throw the ball and sometimes he brings it back and sometimes, just likes to prance around the yard holding it in his mouth, tail wagging all the time. We have had him in both urban and suburban environments and he his happy both places. The key to a good home for him will be a lot of human interaction. A loving environment is really all he needs to continue to be the happy guy that he is......just one thing, no cats:).

Update from Mosby's foster family 7/22/2010:

Mosby loves to play but when my dog said 'enough' he backed off and was quiet.  Mosby has learned to sit for treats.  He's housetrained. Mosby is an energetic young lab. He walks better with a gentle lead harness, as he is very excited to explore all the new sights and smells and must be investigate. Mosby is trying to teach my lab the proper use of a kiddie pool. Mosby took one look at it and went immediately into it and lay down. He is very happy to lie in the pool after our neighborhood walk. Mosby and my lab play most of the day.

Oliver (#10356)

Oliver is a 3 1/2 year old black intact male, will be neutered Tuesday 6/15. Weighs 65 lbs should be about 75. Up to date on shots, Heartworm negative. Kids 10 and up as we have no history . Knows commands - sit down, come. Okay on lead. Crate trained may be house trained as he waits until he is outside to go. Likes to be outside. Very friendly and likes to be with you. Was more interested in figuring out how he could get the treats from my pockets then in playing. He has the prettiest eyes, they have a ring of gold around the iris. Oliver is new to Lab Rescue and we'll get more info on him soon.

Update from Oliver's foster family 6/27/2010:

"Mister Perfect!"  That's exactly who Oliver is!  Since arriving at his foster home last week, he quickly settled in VERY well, has consistently shown his excellent manners and superbly gentle temperament, and has generously shared his Lab-u-licious Kisses .  Oliver is solidly housebroken, is 100% reliable in the house, is obedient, observant, very cheerful and quiet, and is just plain thrilled to be safe, snuggled with and, now, well fed.  Not needing a crate and having free reign of the house, Oliver disturbs nothing.  He does not dig in the yard, settles easily for a snooze and easily sleeps through the night.  He politely asks to go outside when needed and makes sure that his "helicopter tail" is rotating WILDLY whenever he meets a stranger, sees someone smile at him, receives a treat, is given a pat on the head, and receives his meals.  Oliver will make some VERY lucky person or family a SPLENDID canine companion!

Shadow (#10351)

Shadow is a 3 year old chocolate neutered, male. Weighs 140 pounds. Up to date on shots and on Heartworm preventative. Kids 4 and up, as he lives a with a 7 year old. Good with other dogs, no cat history. Knows some commands. Walks with gentle lead. House and crate trained. Crated when owner not home as sometimes he chews things he's not suppose to. Likes to run and play outside. Likes to retrieve but doesn't always bring it back. Shadow has epilepsy - he is on meds and has not had a seizure for over 8 months.

Update from Shadow's foster family 7/13/2010:

Shadow is fitting right in. He is a little overweight and he willingly goes on 3 long walks a day and loves them. He is going a little farther each time. He does well on the leash and never marks a tree (unbelievable)...he just wants to walk. Shadow is pure lab and loves the pool and throwing his toys around. I was a little concerned with him playing with our dog because of his 130 pounds of pure love but they play wonderfully and he never is aggressive. He likes to know where you are in the house but doesn't stick to you like glue. He knows sit, lie down, and no when you want him to stop. He loves to eat and because of his weight we will need some tough love in that department when it comes to his forever home. He will make a great family dog, he does chew toys up but never once touched my stuff and he is fully house trained. He definitely has manners. He is big but every ounce is puppy love!!

Update from Smokey's foster family 7/13/2010:

Smokey has settled in very well and is doing great!  At just 7 months, he is very well behaved and wants to please.  He is housebroken and crate trained. He is learning his basic commands, has already mastered sit, and knows to wait to be told to eat.  He also will go right in to his crate when told.  He loves playing with both of my labs, but can entertain himself with any toy.  He tugs a bit on lead but is getting better.  He is a very quick learner!

Ted (#10436)

Ted is a 2 year old chocolate neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and with cats and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 72 lbs. He knows sit and lay down and loves to play with toys. He is a little timid and will shy away from your hand but is not aggressive at all. He will lay down when someone walks towards him with a mop. He is very sweet.

Update from Ted's foster family 7/19/2010:

Ted loves to cuddle and has a very sweet disposition.  He loves to have attention and is a very gregarious animal.  He comes when called, loves to go running and walks on a retractable leash.  Ted is working on polishing his house training.   He is submissive and will drop when he meets new people or when you put your hand out to pet him.  I have foster parented Ted for two days now and he has totally stopped doing this behavior with me.  He loves attention and frequently gives out free doggie kisses!   Ted has gotten along with my black lab. They have hiked, swam and ran together.  Ted is used to being crated.  He's a beautiful animal and has a heart of gold!  He definitely deserves a great forever home.

Trevor (#9469)

24 month old neutered black male. Children 10 and over due to his size. He’s ok with a very dog savvy cat. He is super affectionate  – loves people, his toys and just being goofy. He is good with his foster’s other dogs and would be a great companion with the right dog, but will need proper introduction with new dogs he encounters while walking. He is housetrained, doesn’t need a crate. He would love to have a running companion – he can easily run 3-4 miles and is very well behaved on the leash while running. He needs to go to a home where he will get lots of exercise, free running time and training.

Trixie (#10240)

Trixie is a 3 1/2 year old black spayed female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs and is learning how to walk on a leash. She is a sweet girl who's a little shy and is learning how to wag her tail.

Update from Trixie's foster family 5/8/2010:

Trixie has had it pretty bad up til now - she was neglected and not treated well for the first part of her life. Despite that, she's a very sweet pup who just needs a little more time to learn the joys of being a dog. She's great with other dogs and likes cats and has no chewing issues or destructive behaviors. She's learning to walk on a leash and learning basic commands. She already knows her name and is crate trained. Everyday she learns new things and delights in them - going up and down stairs, making squeaky toys squeak, coming when called, and figuring out where the cat food dishes are! Trixie is a quiet, mellow dog who is on her way to blossoming into a great companion for a lucky family. She's got a really great personality starting to show and is just as sweet as can be. When she arrived, she was very fearful, but Trixie's coming along- she recently made it through 4 rooms, out the back door, and down the steps to the backyard on her own this morning when I called her. Didn't have to coax her at all. She was very proud of herself - ran up and down the steps with her tail wagging ;). Now if I can just get her interested in walks outside the backyard! She still has some fear of loud or unfamiliar sounds.

Update from Trixie's foster family 6/7/10:

Trixie continues to make progress. She is comfortable with most household noises and activity, although loud and sudden things will still make her retreat to a safe spot like her crate for a few minutes. Her big hurdle continues to be walking out in the open on a leash. She does better in quiet parks with no traffic around than along the street. Trixie is now housetrained. She has no issues with other dogs or cats. Her main form of play is running around and playing a sort of tag. For whatever reason, she’s in love with stairs. She likes to run up and down them as part of her play.
